Rotary erasers are specialized surface preparation machines designed to remove traffic markings, thermoplastics, paint, epoxy coatings, adhesives, rubber deposits, and other surface contaminants from concrete and asphalt without causing excessive damage to the underlying substrate. Unlike traditional scarifiers or milling machines that aggressively cut into the surface, rotary erasers use high-speed rotating cutter assemblies to precisely remove coatings while leaving a smoother, more uniform finish.
At Diamond Tool Store, we offer professional SMITH Manufacturing Rotary Erasers trusted by contractors, municipalities, airports, DOT agencies, and pavement maintenance professionals. Whether you're removing highway striping, preparing concrete for new coatings, or restoring asphalt surfaces, our rotary erasers deliver fast production rates with excellent surface quality.
Rotary erasers offer significant advantages over conventional scarifiers and milling equipment for many surface removal applications.
Rotary erasing technology removes coatings while minimizing grooves, ridges, ghost lines, and unnecessary substrate removal, reducing the amount of additional surface preparation required.
Quickly remove paint, epoxy, thermoplastics, adhesives, and other coatings while maintaining consistent removal depth across large work areas.
Operators can accurately adjust cutting depth to remove coatings without unnecessarily damaging the concrete or asphalt below.
Because less base material is removed, rotary erasers help reduce repair costs and extend the service life of pavement and concrete surfaces.
Choose from coarse, medium, fine, carbide, or specialty cutter assemblies depending on the material being removed and the desired surface profile.
Remove painted traffic stripes, parking lot lines, crosswalk markings, and roadway symbols quickly and efficiently.
Eliminate thermoplastic pavement markings while minimizing damage to concrete and asphalt surfaces.
Prepare floors and pavement by removing epoxy, urethane, elastomeric coatings, and protective surface treatments.
Remove runway markings and prepare airport pavement for restriping and resurfacing.
Used by transportation contractors for roadway maintenance, bridge deck preparation, and infrastructure restoration.
Prepare warehouse floors, manufacturing facilities, loading docks, and industrial concrete before applying new coatings or repair materials.
Our rotary erasers are commonly used by:
Our collection includes professional rotary erasers for a variety of applications and production requirements.
A compact, walk-behind rotary eraser ideal for parking lots, sidewalks, crosswalks, and smaller pavement marking removal projects.
A skid steer-mounted hydraulic rotary eraser designed for medium- to high-production removal of traffic markings, coatings, and thermoplastics on concrete and asphalt.
A heavy-duty hydraulic rotary eraser engineered for large-scale highway, airport, and industrial surface preparation projects requiring maximum production and efficiency.
Rotary erasers are effective for removing:
| Rotary Erasers | Traditional Scarifiers |
|---|---|
| Smoother finished surface | More aggressive cutting action |
| Minimal substrate damage | Deeper grooves and ridges |
| Excellent coating removal | Better suited for heavy concrete removal |
| Lower repair costs | May require additional surface grinding |
| Precise removal depth | More aggressive material removal |
When selecting a rotary eraser, consider:
A rotary eraser removes traffic lines, thermoplastic markings, epoxy coatings, paint, adhesives, and other surface materials from concrete and asphalt while minimizing damage to the underlying surface.
A rotary eraser is designed primarily for coating and marking removal, producing a smoother finish with less substrate damage. Scarifiers are intended for aggressive concrete removal, profiling, and surface reduction.
Yes. Rotary erasers are one of the most effective tools for removing thermoplastic markings from highways, parking lots, and airport pavements.
Yes. Professional rotary erasers are designed for use on both concrete and asphalt surfaces.
They are widely used by pavement maintenance contractors, municipalities, DOT agencies, airports, industrial flooring contractors, and concrete restoration professionals.
Many models, including the SMITH X1 and X3, are designed to mount directly to compatible hydraulic skid steers for increased productivity.
