Consolideck® Integral Color for Overlays — Pre-Measured Liquid Color for Polishable Concrete Overlays

Consolideck® Integral Color for Overlays is a pre-measured liquid color concentrate specially formulated to mix with overlays and polishable overlays. Available in 9 standard colors, it delivers uniform, consistent color results when added integrally during the mixing process. The water-based, non-hazardous formula is UV-resistant and suitable for both interior and exterior applications, including outdoor use with exterior-grade cementitious overlays. Designed for contractors and flooring installers working with polishable overlay systems, it simplifies the coloring process without the mess of powder pigments.

Unlike powder-based colorants, this liquid formula comes in pre-measured 10-fluid-ounce bottles — one bottle per bag of overlay — eliminating guesswork and reducing inconsistency between batches. The water-based formulation also makes cleanup straightforward and simplifies shipping compared to solvent-based alternatives.

Key Features & Benefits

Pre-Measured Convenience

Each 10-fluid-ounce bottle is sized to dose one bag of overlay, removing the need to weigh or measure pigment on the job site. This helps contractors achieve repeatable color results from batch to batch and reduces the risk of over- or under-pigmenting a mix.

UV-Resistant Formula

The UV-resistant formulation helps colored overlays maintain their appearance in applications exposed to sunlight, making this product appropriate for outdoor installations when used with exterior-grade cementitious overlays. Contractors can specify this colorant for covered exterior slabs, patios, and entryways without concern about premature color fade due to UV exposure.

Non-Hazardous, Water-Based, VOC-Compliant

With 0 g/L VOC content, the formula is compliant with US EPA AIM VOC regulations and is fully compliant nationwide. Being non-flammable, non-toxic, non-corrosive, and low-odor, it reduces job-site safety concerns and simplifies handling, storage, and transport.

System Compatibility with Full PROSOCO Consolideck Line

Integral Color for Overlays is engineered to work seamlessly with the full line of PROSOCO Consolideck products used to densify, dustproof, add sheen, or improve stain protection on polishable overlays. This compatibility allows contractors to build a complete coloring and protection system without risking chemical incompatibility between products.

9 Standard Colors, Manufactured for Consistency

The product is manufactured to strict standards to ensure color uniformity and consistency across production lots. Contractors working on multi-area or phased projects can rely on consistent color from one order to the next.

Easy Cleanup and No-Hassle Shipping

The water-based formula cleans up with water and does not require special disposal procedures for residual product beyond local, state, and federal regulations. The non-flammable classification also reduces shipping restrictions compared to solvent-based colorants.

Common Applications

Polishable Concrete Overlay Flooring

Added integrally during the mixing of polishable overlays, this colorant creates attractive, renewable interior floors with consistent through-body color that can be ground and polished to a desired finish.

Exterior Cementitious Overlay Projects

When used with exterior-grade cementitious overlays, Integral Color for Overlays is suitable for outdoor installations such as patios, walkways, and building entries, with UV resistance helping to preserve color in exposed conditions.

Commercial and Retail Interior Floors

Contractors installing decorative polishable overlays in commercial environments can use this colorant to achieve specified colors across large floor areas with batch-to-batch consistency.

Renovation and Resurfacing Projects

Because overlays can be applied over existing concrete substrates, this colorant supports renovation work where new color and surface character are required without a full concrete replacement.

Compatible Materials

  • Polishable concrete overlays
  • Exterior-grade cementitious overlays (for outdoor applications)
  • Full line of PROSOCO Consolideck products (densifiers, dustproofers, sheen enhancers, stain protectors)

Application Instructions

Surface and Environment Preparation

  1. Protect people, vehicles, property, and any surface not to be treated from contact with the product.
  2. Follow the overlay manufacturer's instructions for surface preparation.
  3. Ensure minimum ambient and surface temperature is at least 40°F (4°C) during application and for a minimum of 24 hours after application.
  4. Do not apply if rain is expected during application or within 24 hours after application.

Mixing

  1. Add the contents of one pre-measured 10-fluid-ounce bottle of Integral Color for Overlays into the mix water during the overlay mixing process. Use one bottle per bag of overlay.
  2. Follow the overlay manufacturer's recommendations for proper mixing equipment.
  3. Note that some overlays require the subtraction of mix water equal to the volume of pigment added; others do not require water adjustment. Follow overlay manufacturer's mix water recommendations when adding a liquid colorant.
  4. If deliberately increasing the amount of integral color to intensify color, do so in measured steps and test in samples or a mock-up prior to full-scale placement.

On-Site Testing

  1. Always test integrally colored overlays on-site before full placement, as overlay color, composition, aggregate exposure, and finish will all affect the final color.
  2. Be aware that grinding and polishing the integrally colored overlay will change the final color and appearance compared to the unpolished overlay.
  3. Prepare samples or mock-ups under actual job-site conditions. Variations in ambient and surface temperature, mixing techniques, and finishing techniques will affect final appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much Integral Color for Overlays do I use per bag of overlay?
A: One pre-measured 10-fluid-ounce bottle is designed to dose one bag of overlay. This pre-measured format eliminates the need to weigh or portion pigment on site.

Q: Can I use this colorant on exterior projects?
A: Yes. The UV-resistant, water-based formula is suitable for outdoor use when combined with exterior-grade cementitious overlays. Minimum application temperature is 40°F (4°C), and the product should not be applied if rain is expected during or within 24 hours of application.

Q: Will the final color look the same before and after grinding or polishing?
A: No. Grinding and polishing the integrally colored overlay will change the final color and appearance compared to the unpolished overlay. On-site testing and mock-ups are strongly recommended before full-scale placement.

Q: Do I need to adjust my mix water when adding this colorant?
A: It depends on the overlay product. Some overlays require subtracting mix water equal to the volume of pigment added; others are not affected. Refer to the overlay manufacturer's mix water recommendations and always perform a test batch to ensure desired results.

Q: Is Integral Color for Overlays VOC-compliant in all U.S. states?
A: Yes. Integral Color for Overlays is listed as fully compliant nationwide with US and Canadian VOC regulations per PROSOCO's VOC Compliance documentation.

Q: What is the shelf life of this product?
A: The shelf life is 5 years in a tightly sealed, unopened container stored upright in a dry place at 45–100°F (7–38°C).
