At Diamond Tool Store, our scarifier collection features high‑performance equipment designed for contractors, masonry professionals, flooring installers, and industrial users who demand rugged tools that deliver precise results.
Whether you’re preparing substrates for overlays, removing old coatings, or texturing floors for better traction, our selection of concrete scarifiers provides the performance and reliability needed on commercial and residential jobsites.
What Is a Concrete Scarifier?
A concrete scarifier — sometimes called a surface planer, milling machine, or rotary planer — operates with rotating cutting wheels or flails to remove material from the surface. Unlike grinders, which use abrasive discs, scarifiers physically chip away concrete, making them ideal for heavy removal tasks, eliminating lines, or creating anti‑slip finishes.
Applications include:
-
Removing coatings, adhesives, and thin set
-
Leveling concrete surfaces
-
Texturing floors for traction
-
Removing trip hazards
-
Preparing floors for new coatings

What is a concrete scarifier used for?
A concrete scarifier is used to remove surface materials, coatings, adhesives, and to prepare or texturize concrete floors by chipping away material using rotating cutting wheels.
How is a scarifier different from a grinder?
Scarifiers physically chip and remove material using cutting wheels or flails, while grinders use abrasive discs to grind away surface material. Scarifiers are better for heavy removal, coatings, and profiling.
Can scarifiers be used on asphalt?
Yes. Many concrete scarifiers are capable of milling and texturing asphalt surfaces as well as concrete.
Do scarifiers require dust collection?
Yes — because scarifying generates a lot of dust — many units include ports for attaching a dust collector or vacuum system.
Are concrete scarifiers suitable for outdoor jobs?
Yes. Scarifiers are ruggedly built and suited for both indoor and outdoor surface preparation, as long as power and dust control considerations are met.
What jobs benefit most from a scarifier?
Scarifiers are excellent for industrial floor prep, coating removal, leveling rough concrete, removing trip hazards, and texturing surfaces for overlays or traction.
