Eterra Cyclone 48" Excavator Rotary Brush Cutter
When your job won't wait for weak equipment, the Eterra Cyclone 48" Excavator Rotary Brush Cutter is ready to deliver. Its lightweight, diamond-shaped blade carrier drives two heavy 10.5 lb forged steel blades at 20,000 ft/min, cutting through brush and trees up to 10" in diameter with minimal vibration. Every component is static-balanced for a smooth, reliable cut, a design refined with real-world feedback from professionals. It's compatible with excavators from 8,000 to 30,000 lbs.
Every detail of the Cyclone is built for demanding conditions. Removable front and rear gates let you set it up for heavy land clearing or more precise work, and an efficient gear drive motor delivers rapid, consistent rotation. The direct drive spindle hub and secure blade assembly work together with the Cyclone V2 deck, made from 3/16" structural steel and reinforced with 1/4" ribs and large gussets, to deliver performance that outmatches the competition.

Maintenance at a Glance
- Drive hub oil: comes filled with all-purpose gear oil for break-in. Change it after the first 50 hours, then every 1,000 hours or yearly, whichever comes first.
- Before each use: check your machine's hydraulic fluid, check the cutter blades and hardware, and inspect safety decals.
- Weekly: inspect mower head fittings and attachment hardware, and check the blades and hardware.
- Monthly: inspect and tighten hydraulic fittings and hoses, clean the attachment, and inspect the deck for damage or cracked welds.
- Blades: replace both blades and bolts together if either is damaged. Use new bolts, castle nuts, roll pins, and washers with every replacement. Blades can be rotated once to use the opposite edge, as long as the mower stays balanced.
- Sharpening: after sharpening, both blades must weigh within 0.15 lb of each other to prevent imbalance and excessive vibration.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What size excavator do I need?
A: The Cyclone 48" is compatible with excavators from 8,000 to 30,000 lbs, with 12–45 GPM of hydraulic flow at up to 3,500 PSI.
Q: How big a tree can it cut?
A: Up to 10" in diameter. It's built for hard brush, medium trees, grass, and brambles.
Q: Does my excavator need a special hydraulic setup?
A: Yes. On excavators, the Cyclone must run on a one-way flow (breaker) circuit, so the return flow goes straight back to the hydraulic tank. On some machines this means turning a valve, and on others it's done electronically. Running without it creates high back pressure that damages the motor seal, and that damage isn't covered under warranty.
Q: Do I need a case drain?
A: For excavators running 26 GPM or more, yes. A case drain line must be connected. If your machine doesn't have one, it will need to be added.
Q: Which motor do I need?
A: The gear drive motor is standard. A piston motor is available for machines running 30–38 GPM.
Q: Does it come with hydraulic couplers?
A: Yes. Standard flat face couplers are included. Non-standard couplers aren't supplied and should be sourced locally to match your machine.
Q: How long do the blades last?
A: Expected blade life is about 250 hours when you're not cutting in rocks. The blades can be sharpened, rotated once, and replaced.
Q: What are the removable gates for?
A: The front and rear gates can be removed to customize the mower for heavy land clearing or more precise work. Once you're comfortable with the mower, removing the guard lets you progress to cutting larger material.
Q: How much clearance do I need from people?
A: Never cut within 100 yards of people, animals, or anything you don't want damaged. Material can be thrown at any angle.
Q: Is there a skid steer version?
A: The Cyclone 48" is also available as a mower head for the Eterra Raptor Boom Arm on skid steers.
Q: Where can I find the spec sheet and manual?
A: Download the Cyclone spec sheet (PDF) or download the Cyclone 48" user manual (PDF).
